Created as part of the development of Benjamin's PhD creative methodologies, 'The Chair' is a short poetic documentary which explores the legacy of and later decline of the upholstery trade in Long Eaton, Derbyshire through the testimony of a former worker and lifelong resident of the town. Chris Evans passes her skills on to her grandson, Benjamin, who in turn invites her into the filmmaking process to produce this personal, collaborative testimony to place, purpose and skill.
